thinking of switching over to news paper how often those who use it replace it? Ever had humidity problems and paper getting mushy/wet?

I use newspaper. I change once a week or if I notice crap and such when giving fresh water daily. Yes, sometimes it gets wet and gushy when snake lays in water and spills. The only time I have trouble with humidity is shedding time which is easy to take care of buy spilling a little water when watering.

i use a cypress mulch & spaghnum peat moss mixture. it looks better then plain ol newspaper & hold humidity very well. i cant comment on newspaper as i have never used it.

Agree 100%. Newspaper is the way to go. It is easy to see when it gets messed up, I rarely have to change it between weekly cleanings, I just get the poop out. I do clean and replace once a week. The biggest advantage of newspaper is cost. Humidity not a big issue with me, I control the humidity in the entire snake room.

I use aspen in the summer, and cypress in the winter when my house gets a bit dry.

I use nothing but newspaper.

I like the idea that I have to clean cages more often when using newspaper. When I used to breed colubrids I used to use pine shavings I used to spot clean every day and completly clean the cages once a month. It seems to be a little more work, but I know that my snakes cages clean. I clean every day and I feel the over all health of my animals has increased with the use of Newspapers.

As far as humidity goes I spray my snakes down with tap water when they are ready to shed.

And it costs zero.....

Good luck with your decision.

I use paper towel for the balls, newspaper for the corns, and carefresh for the garters. Total cage clean including scrub with antibacti soak and or 10% bleech depending on smell level, and replace bedding once a week sometimes two, but spot clean big turds as needed. The thing I like about the paper towel is they are cheap, although not free like yesterdays news, but they soak up the liquid "pee" well and if there is a turd you can just tear off that square of paper towel and roll up the turd in the paper towel and then put it in one of your used rodent thaw zip lock bags and put in the trash, with no smell lingering from the trash can between garbage pick-up. I use newspaper for the corns because they push the paper towel into the water dish and then it soaks all the water and floods the tub, where as the newspaper is stiff enough to not allow that to happen. I use carefresh for the garters because they have a higher metabolism and poop a lot, so it's worth spending the extra money plus they like to burrow in it. Those are just my views, but there are many, many other ways and oppinions.

Same here...Newspaper for adults and paper towels for anything under 300 grams...I change the paper if dirty and wash the tubs with antibacterial dish soap.
...and a toothbrush is a good tool to have handy for the messy cleaning jobs.(So long as you don't have it near your own.lol)
