self induced brumation

rickc Mar 05, 2008 01:12 PM

My cal king went into brumation on her own back in November. I shut off all her heat and lights and kept a water dish full. She is in a 20 long and has not come up from under the substrate. When she comes out would I be able to bred her even though I didn't properly cool her? the temps in her cage have been around 60 all winter? Thaks

My vote says yes, it will probably want to breed and should be perfectly capable of producing offspring.

ps I think most snakes do "self induce brumation". We keepers just adjust conditions to help them along with the process

I agree with Tom, it "should" be able to breed just fine,......whether or not she actually DOES is a different story though.

Do the snake a big favor, and warm it up fairly slowly over a several day period, then you can begin feeding her to bulk up a bit.
