Slacker6848 Mar 05, 2008 08:28 PM

Hey, my male suri scraped his tail about a month ago and shed a few weeks ago and lost most his color which made me believe it was because of the scratch well my 9' female i had him in with before he scratched his tail just shed and she seems to have changed color too, these are before and after pics of the color change

any thoughts on what might be happening? is this something that can be contagious?

After (bad pic taken with phone but pretty accurate)

Please, this is not to suggest that the source of your feeders is suspect at all, but I had a similar experience with a couple of Boas several years ago. I fed them mice that had been used for medical research. Yes, I know that's stupid, but the mice were cheap, and I had used a couple of batches before I had adverse effects. They had their throats cut...

Two of my Boas ate these mice, and both wigged-out on me one day. They both developed regurg, and after shedding, both had significant color changes similar to yours...they ended up with a whitewashed appearance. One of them recovered completely and eventually dropped a litter... the other one never got over the regurg syndrome and I finally had to euthanize him. He's pictured here.

ANYHOW, that's a great looking Suri you've got. Hope he's okay-
All the best-

Must have been something they've ate. Not just a cliché. Some anecdotal opinions fat rats are at least one of the culprits.
Some kind of toxic syndrome. More than the kidneys and liver can handle. That is just my opinion. Pure speculation, I will admit. Some say it's the stomach acids from regurge that does it.
