Medusa- the two-headed gatrer

montgo66 Aug 28, 2003 09:42 AM

I am pleased to say that little Medusa has now eaten three guppies. I am going to buy more this afternoon. Only the dominant head seems to eat, but both tounges flick out at the food. I am hand feeding right now with a pair of tweezers.... he doesn't take the initiative to catch guppies if I put him in a dish with them.

How much and how often should I be feeding him? Do I feed him as much as he is willing to eat? I feel like I should be getting him to eat as much as possible since I don't know how long he went in the wild without eating. For those who didn't see my original post, he is only 5 inches long!

Please offer some advice.
Thanks again!

Pictures should be coming soon!

Since garters in general have a very high metabolism, and baby garters in particular, I would let him eat all he can in one sitting. Repeat this in one week intervals. This is how I feed my snakes, and they're all strong & healthy. But remember, after the snake feeds, make sure that it stays in a fairly warm enviroment so that it can properly digest its food. Snakes that gorge themselves and then are put back into a cool setting, will either regurgitate the food, or possibly die.
