Moss in Leopard Enclosure

BenA Mar 06, 2008 12:40 PM

Hello, I am looking to make a humid hide for my two leopards and have read a lot about moss being a good base. My question is, is this safe to eat? My leopards (one large female and one yearling) try and eat everything in site. I would be shocked if my femail did not eat it. Does not seem like a good idea to put moss bedding in if she will eat it. Do others have experience with this or better solutions. I built a humidifier that pumps moist air through hoses into their enclosure, but would like something in there that actually holds some of the moisture.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

I find using a small clear rubbermaid container flipped over and with a small entranceway cut on one side works well. I use a coconut bedding that holds moisture and set the box over this substrate. About once a week I moisten the substrate to keep the humidity up.
