I'm a 1.0 0.1 1.0.1 blah blah idiot

Rob328gts Mar 06, 2008 12:44 PM

OK, don't be hard on me and I haven't looked around too much, what are all the 1.0 and 0.1 and even 3 digit designations next to specimens?

when the number is in front of the . it indicates male and when behind the . it is female. when you see 0.0.1 it would indicate that it hasn't been sexed or is just unknown.

Shannon

Rob328gts Mar 06, 2008 01:44 PM

Thank you. Why does the male get to go first?

Funny, I was reading a thread about a lost King and it was listed as 0.1. I thought it meant maybe 10% chance of finding.

Rob328gts Mar 06, 2008 02:59 PM

So what does 1.1 mean, like on EddieF's sig?

DMong Mar 06, 2008 03:43 PM

1.1 indicates a pair(male and female), as Shannon already explained.

Shannon didn't explain that specifically, but that would be first guess unless hemorphadite. Thanks.

where does your post...

"when the number is in front of the . it indicates male and when behind the . it is female. when you see 0.0.1 it would indicate that it hasn't been sexed or is just unknown."

...say anything about 1.1 being a pair?

DMong Mar 06, 2008 08:49 PM

C'mon man!,.....you don't see the pattern?!!!!!!!!!! you just pasted the info in your post!

1.7 = one male, seven females

2.1 = two males, one female

2.2.4 = two males, two females, and four unsexed

If you don't get it THIS time, put the pipe down.(joking)

Man, I'm new here, but I think some of you would be better suited for Pit Vipers than Kings.

I never said I didn't get it after it was explained by you before, my point was how in the heck was I supposed to figure that out from just shannon's first post? shannon explained very well what 1.0 and 0.1 was. You explained 1.1. All is good, except some passive aggresive posters here against the newbie.

Patton Mar 06, 2008 10:07 PM

Don't take it personal. We do this to everybody. LOL!!! It's been a little slow here lately, and we're a little bored. Another term you'll see used every once in a while is F1, F2 or F3. The number denotes the generation from founding, otherwise known as wild caught or WC stock. So a '07 1.2 F1 Eastern Kings
is one male, and two female trio from the 2007 season that were bred from WC stock. Now if you rase up this trio and breed them, their offspring would be F2's or 2nd generation from founding stock. I hope this helps.

Phil, I thought F1, F2 or F3's were those fighter jets flying out of Oceana, over top your house every day. Darn, you learn something new everyday.

I can see it now! What does F-18 Super Hornet X with a F-22 Raptor produce? A hell of a lot of noise!!!! LOL!!!!

F1 isn't necessarily first generation from WC.
It also can denote first generation of a project. At least I've seen it used that way in plenty of contexts (particularly hybrids but not exclusively).

That would make sense. I haven't seen it used in that context, but I wasn't really looking either.

No problems, I'm thick skinned and realize I don't know anyone here or much about Kings yet. It will get better, I'm sure y'all get sick of the same newbie questions.

FunkyRes Mar 07, 2008 05:15 PM

When I got back into kings - I didn't know what it was either.
So I sat back and waited for someone else to ask

Doug can sound a little offensive sometimes, but he doesn't mean anything by it. It's hard to tell online the "tone" of a person's voice. When you really need help, Doug and the others give some great advice.

DMong Mar 07, 2008 10:30 AM

>>> "It's hard to tell online the "tone" of a person's voice."

Yes, you're right, it's often hard to tell what a person's demeanor is from text online,......I can be somewhat "blunt", and straight to the point. And I tend to use a lot of sarcasm at times that can sometimes get misinterpreted, but I usually mean all of this in a sarcastic, "fun" way.

I'm glad you have found at least a few posts I've made in the past somewhat informative, and I really appreciate the compliment.

I try not to be mean ALL the time!..LOL!
