I purchased him/her back in January while visiting home (Houston)from the reptile pet store i used to frequent. I was told that he/she was caught in Missouri about 5 years ago. That is all the information I have on it. The red is much more pronounced in person, my camera really did not pick up the red as well as i would have liked.

That is exactly what I was told that he/she was caught in Missouri. It is my first ratsnake so did not really know what to do for caging but I think it likes what I did.

I have thought of using such a cage for my favorite rat snakes my self, but I've always wondered, "How 'escape proof' is that cage?"

I have used these cages outdoors with out any problems. I just twist tie the zippers together and make sure no animals have chewed any holes in it. HEATING can be rather difficult, any cords inside make an escape route. I have seen heat lamps melt these cages. indoors these cages are better suited for chameleons but, thats just one mans opinion.

Thanks for the opinion. Yeah, I don't see them being that practical, but I did consider them once upon a time. They might make a great temporary, outdoor play-pen, though.

I agree heating is an issue, I have also used these outside to house bearded dragons when I live in Houston. I even used one of those really expensive vapor heat lamps on it and the only thing it did was discolor the cage, maybe it depends on the brand you use. The only thing that distroyed the cage was the neighbors Boxer. LOL As far heating the cage for my ratsnake it works out because he hides under the newspaper at the bottom on the cage when he is not climbing. I have three heat tapes under one side of the cage that he uses for warmth so all works out fine.
