Green not eating..............

Gene Aug 28, 2003 10:47 AM

I know I am jumping the gun here, I apologize.

I got a little male green at the Daytona show. He has not eaten yet. I know, I know. It is probably too soon. I am keeping handling to a minimum and letting him acclimate. He has a nice weight & I don't think he is hurting for food in any way but I was wondering are there any "tricks" to getting them to eat?

I have offered p/k mice and f/t mice with no luck.

His temps are good, 75-95 is the gradient, damp cypress, two hides, water tub, etc.

Thanks for any help.

Gene

My green would not touch f/t mice, and still wont. I tried the night I got him, and then 2 weeks later and he didnt care for them. So I got 2 live mice and the method I use is to flick them really hard right where the necka nd the head meet, and that puts them out with still a slight movement and breathing, and my green took them right from me, no problems, didnt even strike.

` Some of my Boas won't take frozen/thawed food after it has cooled. If I keep it over 100 degrees, F., they go for it. Sometimes it cools, before I get it to them. The picky snakes refuse it. I dip it in hot water, and they take it. It also helps if the food is warmer than me. This cuts down on SFEs!
` I spent 10 minutes, one time, with a Ball Python clamped onto my finger, and trying to kill my wrist. When the food is warmer than 98.6, this is less likely.

He ate yesterday. Probably while I was whining about him not eating. I left a f/t in with him for awhile and when I got back there was just one big green lump in the middle of my snake.

One question DFR. What does SFE stand for?

Thanks again!

` Stupid Feeding Errors. The bigger the constrictor, the more stupid they can be!!
