I have a thriving blaptica dubia colony and it takes very little set-up or up-keep. They're probably the easiest feeder there is.

I use a 10 gal tank with screen top, 4 outside walls covered with black paper. I've got a small heat mat under the tank with a thermostat set to 90-95 degrees on the glass right over it. You don't really need the heat source but it speeds up breeding and growing.

No substrate, multiple layers of egg trays, a clay pot dish of water crystals and one of food, usually powdered rodent block and chicken grower mash. I check the food and water crystals once a week.

I started with 50 last July and have many hundreds (maybe a thousand) now, though I haven't done an actual count.

I've been feeding off 30-40 nymphs per week of various sizes and haven't made any kind of dent in the population. It's easily self sustaining the population much faster than I can use them. I'll probably have to turn off the heat if they get too crowded.

B Dubia are very slow and can't climb glass so no worries of escapes.
