calcium problems have some weird signs!

scripta_elegans Mar 07, 2008 09:33 AM

This is probably old news to many of you, but Hannibal went to the vet, and I learned a few new signs to watch for in regards to hypocalcemia. my set up is right, and he is well suplemented, the vet said that it just happens sometimes even if everything id set up perfectly.
1) constipation. He said that in 95% of the case he has seen with collareds, it is hypocalcemia that leads to this, not impaction.
2) Lethergy- He also said that he has seen many lizards which the owners brought in concerned about RI, but they were hypocalcemic instead. this was only 1 in 6 or so, but still signifigant.
3) Very slight twitching. I think we all know that twitching comes with calcium issues, but it can be so slight, that it is hard to see. I expected shaking. Its more of a tiny tremor in most cases.

If this is old news, sorry! I Just wanted to share what I found out.

P.S. Hannibal is doing much better. He has been getting waxworms injected with calcium, and he seems happy about it.
