Ribbon Snake - Dietary Needs

rukind24 Aug 28, 2003 10:57 AM

Now that I've successfully identified my little beauty as a Western Ribbon Snake, I'm wondering if the dietary requirements are more than the current feeder fish from the local pet store (I want to say they are rosies or some sort of minnow). Currently she is loving them... eating 2 or 3 of them every other day (or every two days).
She is certainly way to small to think about feeding any sort of pinky or anything, but will there ever be a need to supplement her diet with other foods? Or can they live long happy, healthy lives on fish alone?

Any insight is appreciated! thanks.

feeder containes an antibody that destroys vitamins in side the snake and when i use minnows i use trout minnows that i buy at a trout farm because they do not contain as many parasites.
It looked like your snake could take a small pink but mabe not.
If you do try a small pinkie rub the pink with the fish so it scnts it also wiggle it on tongs on the side of the bowl with long tongs and make it look like a fish on the side of the bowl by sometimes making a little splash in the water with the pink
hope thes works.

im not the most knoledgeable about this antibody so mabe someonelse could help
