jacksons digested his own tongue!

deano08 Mar 07, 2008 03:39 PM

my 4 month old jacksons chameleon was having problems with his tongue that just got worse and the end of his tongue died the vet took the dead part off and gave me some medication.
a week later he went back to check on his progress and the vet told me that he had swallowed and probably digested his tongue as it was no longer in his mouth or his throat.
he seems pretty happy though i feed him by hand and he lets me drip water in his mouth.
what im asking is does anyone have any tips on how to help him hunt his food himself as he tries but is struggling to catch his food and being a jacksons his horns get in the way when he tries to pick them up with his mouth.

You can hand feed it for a while, gradually moving the food further from its mouth so it will begin to chase after it. You don't want it to starve while its learning to eat without its tongue...so you may have to hand feed it anyway for a while if it can't catch anything by itself.
