questions on feeding and a fun pic!

whippetluv Mar 07, 2008 07:03 PM

Okay so I got this little guy in November, and he quickly found himself loose in the house. Two months later I found him again. He is a tiny fella, but well..what a hunter. I never noticed before, but now he is always hunting. He stalks my fingers as I work the mouse *he is on my desk in a 10 gallon*, and eats a pinkie in seconds. He is my only king, and seems so small compaired to when my corn moved on to fuzzies....but is he ready for them? Do people use the same scale as a corn for feeding size? He is 15 grams. I have been doing a pinkie every 4 to 5 days.
Also...as silly as it seems, would "living in the wild" of my house improve his hunting skills? I mean the pinkies are dead, but he really hunts them down these days. He definatly got into trouble as he has quite a few scars from his adventure.
Anyway...fun picture of my butt-muncher!

He's adorable, congrats on managing to find him after his jaunt.

Thanks. I see you have a missing friend in your siggie. I found him by watching my dogs. THey were barking in the corner of the laundry room at nothing....nothing turned out to be a snake. This is the second time I have found a missing snake by listening to them. My biggest lesson...don't buy cheap cages! ha!

I tried following my barn cat around the house, but he chose to sit in front of the tv and stare at me. He's a pretty good hunter outside, so I thought there was a good chance he'd lead me to her. I don't have dogs anymore, but I did consider borrowing a friend's weinerdog to see if she could sniff Lizzie out.

I don't know whether she escaped while I had the lid off and was feeding her or whether she pushed the lid up when I wasn't in the room. It has secure latches and such on it, so I don't think she did it on her own, but since she's a kingsnake, anything's possible. ^_^ I didn't discover her absence until a good 24 hours after she had probably already escaped. She's been missing since October. It's very probable that she's still in the house somewhere, but I have no clue what she could be eating. We don't have anoles getting in the house anymore. :/

Sounds like its time to feed him bigger prey and possibly feed him more often. When my snakes start stalking me, my dog, etc. its time to feed them. 1 pinky every 4-5 days isn't enough food to keep him happy.
