godforbidwigwag Mar 07, 2008 08:21 PM

I called Dave Collings a few weeks back and told him of this rainbow boa that needed a home. She had a really bad wheeze, possible RI and wasn't kept well at all. She was in a hot dry room and no humidity. My cousin is a vet and has helped us the last few weeks to get her back up to snuff!! I have had her about 2-3 weeks and Have her in the right habitat and shes doing very well. Had her out tonight and no wheezin!!! YAY!!!

Shes a beautiful snakes heres some picks!! We named her Bubbles!

Nice looking rescue, did changing her to the proper environment with temp and humity stop the wheezeing or did you have to use meds?
I hear that BRB will wheeze when it is too dry and that can be confused for an RI. Also sometimes their nose holes can be blocked or dry which can cause a whistle/Wheeze/etc..

Thanks,
Bill

Good on you. That snake looks like it is doing well now.

Like I told you back then, for others to read and hopefully take heed as you did!!!

When dealing with a improperly cared for rescue / acquisition. Care MUST be taken to insure you are NOT just taking on someone elses problems. Just like when buying a used car, have the seller take it to YOUR vet at your expense. Have the vet check it out and give you an un-biased report on how it is and what will be required. IMO would be horrible to take in a snake, spend a lot of e motional energy (and money) trying to help/fix problems that may be to far along to fix. Ending up in having the animal put down.

This way you can make an informed decision. Even MORE important when there are other snakes already in your collection. Quarantine proceedures are a MUST. Even fully healthy animals from trusted sources go through quarantine in my house. EVERY TIME, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
