Egg deposition happening sporadically !?

primevalbeauty Mar 08, 2008 02:02 PM

Background:
Purchased a gravid female sun. She was transported to me monday and I'm guessing that the move is the main problem in this instance. She was removed from her cage placed into a container for the 2 hr trip.(Cage came too). WHen she arrived she was placed back into her original cage after some setup time. Given heat, and a large area of moist sphagnum moss . Tues she began sporadically dropping an egg or two at a time randomly about the cage, ignoring the eggs and not gathering them up. It's now sat, she's dropped a total of 24 eggs and it appears that shes got at least that many left in her, the last one she dropped was between 8 and 12hrs ago a slug. Any ideas on why she's not exhibiting the typical layem at once gather em up behavior? Anyone experienced this?

My guess is that the move disrupted her. There are a lot of breeders that do not mess with their females at all until they drop their eggs. Moving a female that was about to drop eggs is a bit much in my opinion. I continue to change out the newspaper when my snakes are gravid, but that is it. I do my best not to disturb them too much.

Keep a close eye on her. If she holds those eggs too long she will become egg bound. Then you are looking at a costly surgery bill.

Good luck,
Jim

if you dont have a laying box for her to curl into and get nice and cozy and safe feeling she is proably wondering looking for one and dropping eggs as she goes because she cant hold them any more, im sure by this point she is very stressed with the whole situtation, hope it works out, good luck. jim...
