Hey there Dan, Those guys are looking real good! Hope you have some luck with them this year. How are all of the other kids?
-Nat
Nat, how's those Sudans? Do you expect another Saharan clutch?Everything's looking good here, both uros & snakes. The normal patterned Silvers are growing like weeds, as are most of the Sub-oc fandangle.
D&L
Hey Dan, glad to hear those sub-ocs are doing great! The Sudanese are doing well, the female has filled back out and they both seem to be doing what uros do best. . . eating and lounging around. I am definitely expecting another batch from the geyris; she has started to balloon up quite a bit. I also think the newer female that I added may be gravid. I guess I will find out in time!
-Nat
Nat, your Sudans WILL breed again this season. But, I'd suggest, after breeding you set her up in a separate enclosure with Robyn's 50/25/25 formula & fairly deep. Her problem in the past has been, I'm certain, she HAS to burrow for egg-laying, nesting box be damned.
Miss youse guys but you're too far away anymore!
Handsome pair, good luck!
Dannyboy,
yet again you impress me with your exceptional looking ornates...I'm officially starting to get jealous of the highly pigmented uros that you seem to have in your collection haha! Very nice looking pair and I wish the best of luck to you. I'm waiting for my group to still reach sexual maturity and adult size, but they are growing like weeds and I hope I'll be there by next yr. I'm addicted to the soil/higher temps theory with uros! In fact one of my male's head is nearly completly green and he's still a few months under a yr of age. Just waiting on the body! My other four are starting to catch up to him. They haven't been in the soil setup for most of their lives. I bought them from Dr. Dix as a yr. old grp for hopes of future breeding. However they seem to have taken to the natural setup terrifically, the burrows they are digging never seize to amaze me!
Happy Herping,
Paul
Thanks, Paul, but Doug & Lindsay deserve the credit for any that we have.
Gravid ornates are extremely fragile creatures. I'd love to see some experienced input discussed here. Having an ornate go to full term & lay eggs without health issues seems to be the exception, not the rule.
Best of luck with your group!
Dan.
This girl is puppy dog tame & teamed up with a proven blue male. I'm almost scared to breed her.
She is beautiful. How old is she and at what age will they normally begin to breed?
Unsure of her age. Her original keeper remains a mystery but I'm guessing she's at least 4 yrs old.
As for breeding age, I've heard some folks say they've had success at 1 1/2 years, given the best lighting & nutrition. I think that's rushing it under any circumstances & that 3 to 4 years (still with the best of everything) is a practical beginning point.
That being said, & having lost 2 gravid females in one year, I'm hardly someone to give advice. Maybe there's a Uro wizard out there who could chime in on this subject...
I was looking through all the posts hopefully to learn a few things and I came across the pic of you girl Ornate. She is absolutely beautiful. I love her colors.
