"Normal" inland?

iant Mar 09, 2008 04:11 PM

This is my first bearded dragon. He ( i think) is 7" svl and looks good, I was wondering if he appears to be a normal inland dragon? also any educated guess on age at that length? many thanks

Ian

an overhead picture would be good...but from what I can see, it looks like a normal Inland bearded dragon.

Hey thank you! I was thinking of getting him a girlfriend this weekend. can you clip there nails?

dragons don't need girlfriends.. best to keep them housed alone unless you want to breed, and even then, best to house them separately and only put them together to breed.

Also, always wise to quarantine any new additions for at least a month (and clean bill of health from a qualified herp vet), three months is better, with at least a fecal for parasites once per month.

You can clip toe nails, just do not clip too much and damage the 'quick' which is the living part of the nail. You can typically see where this starts looking through the side of the nail..or just clip the very tip (a millimeter or two from the sharp point, is safe). Slate tiles in the cage can help naturally wear down nails as well.

Again, soooo not an expert, but if you read my post on keeping breeders together, it's VERY clear to my that dragons (or at least my dragons) ARE very social...my 3 would need lizard prozac without each other lol. Here's that post:

I've tried to separate my 3, and it just makes everyone upset. Just recently I took Albie out, but after a day of protesting, he just kinda "gave up and spent 24/7 in the corner of his cage, laying flat with his head in the corner. Stopped eating too. Likewise, my 2 girls would frantically "pace" looking for him. And with them being gravid, I didn't like the stress that was adding.

So after like a week, I gave up and put Albie back in w/his girls. They instantly started "tasting" each other and Albie had the biggest meal of life! As we speak they're one big happy lizard pile basking.

I also tried to take one of my gals once too, with pretty much the same results, so I guess my lil trio is meant to stay together!
