Florida Giant Green Snakes?

DeadIrishD Mar 09, 2008 06:01 PM

What are they exactly?

They look amazing at petco, but without me knowing what they are, or how to care for one, I do not want to pick one up.

That name is actually just some name that they "dreamed up" for a market gimmick to call something, without seeing it, or a photo, it's hard to say exactly what they are referring. But I will tell you, if it is truly from florida, and it's green, they are PROBABLY talking about a Rough Greensnake(Opheodrys aestivus). It's the only bright green snake in Florida.

Did this look like the snake in question?

Yeah, it's hard to imagine what they might be. The Rough Green Snake is the only really green snake we have and it would be hard to imagine them being called "giant". Most likey standard pet store naming convention, i.e. they made it up.

What part of Florida are you in? If it's anywhere near me, I'd love to stop by and see what they're up to.

Reminds me of a "Northern Kingsnake" i came across in a petsmart near my house. What it was was a black mexican kingsnake with a picture of a striped california kingsnake on the card. Good times! Pet stores would make me smile, if it werent for how most of them keep their animals.

A Mexican Black King(Northern King),......now THAT'S funny..LOL!

Pet Stores NEVER cease to amaze me!!.....I went to a petshop a while back, and the guy had a Chihuahua Mountain Kingsnake(knoblochi) listed as a Honduran Milksnake!..LOL!

And unless he lives in south america, the black mexican kingsnake isnt "northern" at all! Its funny how they have a jet black snake in a cage with a picture of a green snake with yellow stripes, and nobody even blinks! I was gonna tell somebody, but i didn't want to get in a huge argument over nothing (and you know they wouldn't just say "your right, ill fix it" to a 16 year old. What about their pride???). Is it too hard to make sure that the picture of the snake matches the snake??? What's funny is the card was printed, so somebody actually had to type it out. Wonder if they were able to do that without bursting out laughing!

lol!!! I ran into a kid here that had bought an "African water lizard" at a local pet store.....I looked at it and it was a baby american alligator (which also is illegal to own here in Utah)

HydraZulu Mar 12, 2008 09:04 AM

There's the solution to an animal being illegal, just make up a stupid fake name for them! Oh no *insert landlords name*, it's not a retic, its an asian garter snake! (If it's still a baby) they dont get over 3 feet long, i swear!
