BDs and baby food??

youngherplover Mar 09, 2008 09:21 PM

I was wondering if it was okay to feed bearded dragons baby food. I have some for my crested gecko and just out of curiosity I offered the spoon to one of my beardies to lick. He loved it!
The other one loved it too but kept trying to eat the spoon instead of lick it.

So, is it bad for them? Or does it matter?

Thanks!

Baby food is not a good food for bearded dragons. Baby food isn't even good for crested geckos...at least not by itself. Most baby food is just too high in sugar, some with other stuff not good for bearded dragons or crested geckos (or other 'nectar' eating geckos) Organic type baby foods with no additives or added sugar (glucose, fructose etc are sugars, just different types (same with sucrose) could be used with nectar eating geckos (crested geckos, gargyle geckos, most of the Rhacodactylus species), but keep in mind, fruit baby food and crickets isn't a complete diet for them, though they can do well on it. Not bearded dragons as they are not fruit eaters...only a small part of their diet should include fruit (no more than 5% of total dietary intake per day)

As an emergency for a sick bearded dragon, chicken or beef baby food could be used but its not a good staple or even a regular addition.

Every time I have had a sick BD.. I just rescued an emaciated BD... the vets tells me to syringe feed them baby food. 1 part veg to 1 part meat. With calcium.

Thank you for your advice!

Okay, so I guess I shouldn't feed my BDs baby food. Thats okay.
I'm only giving my crested babyfood because that's what he was used to before I got him, soon I hope to get him eating just CGD and some crickets.

Thanks for the help!
