I haven't posted here in quite some time. Last time, I was reporting that my JCP was biting (nipping really) me everytime I picked her up. I got here when she was already a couple years old and she had a little attitude.
Well, since then she has put on some size, became more confident with herself and trusts me more and I haven't been bitten in about a year and a half to two years.
One of the things I was doing wrong was trying to control her movement too much, as to avoid a bite to the face. She would get frustrated and bite me.
I think if you expect a bite you will probably get one.
Now I just take her right out and lay her right over my shoulder and begin petting her body.
I believe you have to trust them in order for them to trust you.
So far so good, she's now my favorite snake.
I still don't trust her around others that aren't experienced snake handlers. I don't let her have a chance to bite others when I show her to them.
I have a smaller male that has been a sweet heart since I got him a couple years ago. He's never as much as hissed at me. I'd trust him to be held by others.
Later,
Kirk
