Shouldn't that be "BOG" (black on gray)?
Steve,
The first alterna I ever collected was on Juno Road and looked pretty much identical to your Buffalo creek. I collected another one west of Langtry and bought one from Norm that he collected east of Sanderson. All 3 were considered "Butt ugly" back then. I think Hollister once said "if you liked mud then these are the snakes for you"!!! Funny how the perceptions have changed in the last 20 years with the newer collectors. I do respectfully disagree with Eby that they are gray on black [actually dark dark maroon]. Thats why they are called gray banded. The gray is always considered the ground color. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your "mud phase" alterna! NO offense intended. Whatever "floats your boat". BA
They are different. That is a good thing in my book.
Best Wishes,
StevenX

Huh? I said, "Shouldn't that be "BOG" (black on gray)?", meaning black bands on gray ground color. Or, did you mean to say you "agree with Eby".
My bad!!! The gray on black in your post I guess was attributed to Steve and not you. I do agree with you. Sorry for mixing it up.
Would like to add that Hollister [the Yoda for most alterna collectors] always said if you are going to hunt 277 stay south of Loma Alta unless you want the "ugly" ones up by Buffalo Creek!!!
Don't know if thats 100% accurate but I think more light phase are found further south and the darkies further north. BA
Whew! I feel sooo much better now. My fragile ego was at serious risk of permanent damage.
BTW, is a gray-band with a buckskin ground color still a gray-band. Damn these snakes are confusing.
It is grey on black. The snake will eventually be black. We know that. So there it is grey on black snake.

Her half siblings are beginning to darken as well- Keep me in mind as she gets older.
Think she will be able to go next year?

I think she might be able to... I don't want to push it though. I have no problem waiting an extra year. ( I bet Lance doesn't either)
Thanks for the response.
Best Wishes,

I think our shared fear is the unknown age of the male we will pair her with... I am sure he will be fine for many many many more years, but murphy makes a lot of laws about this kind of stuff.
