GREEN FECES

mrslate Mar 10, 2008 06:33 PM

My uro's feces was green today. It was wet and soft but still formed. It didn't smell bad. The last one was normal. Could it be that I have been giving him sprouts? Or is it probably parasites?

sometimes a change in diet will cause something like that-or it could be a parasite. i guess you will have to see what happens or get a fecal test. my vet is only around two days a week and I have had false negatives from the assistants so i understand wanting to know the possibilities right now! then the sneaky lizards won't give you a sample when you need it...man. I am thinking of getting a microscope but then you need media, slides, ANYONE?

My mali lets you know when he needs to 'go'. He asks to come out of his habitat. He will not releive himself in there and will hold it until I let him out to his newspaper sheets or in warm weather, the deck.

This is the only lizard I have had who exhibits this behavior. One day I will video his tricks. If the deck is available you open the door and he will run out and do a predator check. If he deems things are safe he runs under a certain deck chair and adds to his midden.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast such a fat lizard can move when motivated.

If the weather is cool he will check that the 'coast is clear' and run back to the door and climb back in or will even climb into your hands to go back to his habitat. If it is summer weather once he is finished his business he will help himself to all of my flower pots.

Yep, true!

thank you red toad. that response was very helpful.

yes, and since my mali's would glass dance all the time, I have trained them to do a chorus line in synchronicity. I am presently training them to tap dance and have made them all little shoes. it's true. i will post a pic later with a link to Youtube.

Ah, but there is a difference between a glass dance and a bathroom dance! Mine will specifically go to the side door on the habitat. Now if I can only get the baby egyptian to learn this trick cage cleaning will be nil!

BTW- Uro feces can look different depending on what they have been eating (at least my lizards vary) so the colors you see may be normal.

The poo...it has returned to normal. Must have been all those sprouts. Cut back on the serving size-and the last batch was different, wetter and thinner, stringy, less crunchy. Threw them out, they had the better ones in stock last night. Will keep an eye and nose out though. Thanks toad.

when you say green, I don't know how green, green is? However, I'm no expert on this subject, but I can offer my two cense. Like red toad mentioned above, the color of their fecal matter can depend on what they are eating. Have you ever had carrot juice in a full serving? If not, go make a nice big glass and tell me what the results are in a few days haha! I guess the saying "you are what you eat" is indeed very true, even for reptiles.

If your uro is showing all normal signs of behavior and is eating properly, I would imagine there isn't a problem to be worried about. However then again I may be wrong and maybe one of the "uroologists" like Dr. Dix may know something . In fact I would be interested myself because I love learning new things in all categories about uros.

Happy Herping,
Paul
