Sad, but not surprising.

HydraZulu Mar 10, 2008 07:59 PM

I was just watching Ocean Force: Huntington Beach, and this guy was sitting at the beach letting his (8 ft. approx.) boa constrictor get some sun, and the cops were called to make him leave. The cops themselves stated that there are no laws preventing him from being there with his pet, but the cops said that somebody called and complained, and they "suggested" he leave. In the beginning, when they were introducing the little mini-case thing (lol sorry, but my search for a real word came up short.) they announced a man was hanging out with his "slimy friend". I'd ask what peoples reactions to this are, but i already know, so feel free to say whatever.

don't you just love that..."sir, you're not breaking any law, but we RECOMMEND that you leave" What would they do if he didn't leave??? Antagonize him til he DID break SOME law? Sad society that we live in. At least they didn't approach with guns drawn "Sir, put down the weapon! We have reason to believe that slimy animal just ate a child and made another one gravely ill with it's poison. If you don't put it down and let us shoot it (probably miss and hit a child like cops did awhile back) we will be forced to open fire on you!"

Haha, yeah: You're not doing anything wrong, but stop doing it anyways, or "something" will have to be done. It's just a good thing that he didn't dispute it more, or he would have been sent to jail for harassing a police officer, or something like that. It does make you wonder WHAT they would have done if he wouldn't have left, though.

Glad you liked a few,.....I like to have some fun, and get a few chuckles now and then.

BTW, did anyone ever hear more about the case (I think it was in NY City) where the guy was arrested for walking down the street with a large snake? I think they said he was "creating a risk to public safety" or something like that. I never saw anything else about it.

LOL!,.........I think you might be talking about the jerk that was walking the albino Burmese python around for a nice casual winter's walk in very cold weather. Is that the one,...if so, I think he got arrested for animal cruelty(as he should have), and possibly fined too.

The cops SHOULD have tasered him for sure..LOL!

yeah, that's the one! It's hard to trust the media so I was wondering if anyone knows what actually happened (like, did anything ever give his side of the story? Did he ever say why? It's hard to understand a situation when you don't know why he did what he did).
But my biggest concern is if he had it wrapped around him, how did he ever get all that slime off

They should make a snake-slime-removing skin cream, they would make millions. Or come to think of it, an anti-snake anything, no matter how ridiculous it is, would have people RUNNING to buy it. Get some skin lotion, dye it green, re-bottle it, and sell it for $5 as a snake repellent, and make millions. (Feel free to take that idea, and go make millions, but, it would be nice if you slipped me a few thou...you know, just out of gratitude.)

Heck, I have had this happen a couple of times walking my Bullmastiff in a public area when an event was going on. ( Farmers Market (full of other dogs) and art fairs.) Mind you my BMF was a therapy dog that regularly visited a skilled nursing facility. The cops just saw a dog that was smarter than them. People are predominantly ignorant phobic dweebs. The police have to protect that. Very sad.

I attended a "fun day" on Fort Eustis a few years back. Lots of people had their dogs out there, enjoying the weather. One fellow had his Pitt Bull on a chain. A four year old, walking behind his mother, passed by that "well-behaved Pitt" and it was on his head like he was a chew toy. When the owner of the Pitt managed to pry the dog off the kid, what did he do? Jumped in his truck with the dog and hauled out of there like the devil was after him.

I see reason to be cautious about large dogs and most of their owners, and I grew up with a German Shepherd. He was the best dog ever, god rest his soul.

Yes, your dog was well-trained. However, when dealing with people who may or may NOT have their dogs well-trained, I would say it is best to err on the side of caution. God help any dog that ever attacks one of my kids, even if it was a poodle or yorkie. :P The only dog I was ever attacked by in my life was a Springer Spaniel and he was even sweet until the stupid girl who owned him decided it would be funny to kick him in the privates a few times, then lock me in the yard with him. I never blamed the dog, that time.

You know, when Court TV came here to tape Ocean Force, we knew weeks ahead of time that they were coming. Do you think it's possible that this guy took his snake out there to cause a disturbance and get on television? It would be quite a coincidence that he would do it the same day they were taping, unless he actually went out to that beach with his pet all the time.

I have to say though, even if I had a dog, cat, iguana, snake, horse, or muskrat out in public minding my own business and cops came up to tell me that they'd had a complaint and I needed to leave, I wouldn't mouth off at them. Unless I wanted my fifteen minutes of fame for whatever tv show they were taping. :P

I saw that episode, and he didn't mouth off at all. He just said that he sees no reason why he has to leave, when all the people with cats and dogs can stay. No more, no less, and just as calmly. Besides, it could have very well been a coincidence.
