Hey guys...

Hollychan Mar 10, 2008 09:11 PM

There's a post today in the Cali King forums about a snake biting itself and drawing blood. Could someone respond to it?

That's really hard to say as to why the snake does this, the guy gave ZERO information about it, and no photo. Could be a number of things. I've seen snakes bite themselves in a frenzy to grab prey, but never just out of the blue.

It doesn't sound good though.

I've only seen them do that during feeding. Maybe if it had mouse sent on it, but shouldn't happen out of the blue. Not even for mites. Strange.

Hi Holly, I have seen that type behavior in a couple of zoo animals over the last bunch of decades.

The problem is, MOST of what the experienced know about mental and physical problems in snakes is very basic. As in, Not advanced or extreme.

When an individual becomes extreme enough to bite or try to consume itself, It most likely is past our experience level and normal VET care level.

So other then a vet visit and going over decent husbandry methods, I have no idea what to tell that person.

I think thats something WE all want to avoid, not fix. Cheers

That's true, I just wanted to make sure he didn't think he was being ignored in that forum. It (the Cali Kingsnake forum) hardly ever gets checked.

It seems many of the sub-forums are rarely checked.
