Slow Growth

amiller82 Mar 11, 2008 10:32 AM

I have an approximately 5 month old female Nosey Be who is still tiny (2" s/v). I purchased her in early November along with a male, who is now very good sized and beautiful. I am certain my lighting, heat and H2O are optimum...my other nine chams are thriving. This is the first baby female Panther I have raised, but something seems off. While she doesn't eat very much, she does eat gut loaded crickets and silkies. She moves around the different areas of her cage and appears to have a predictable daily routine. I usually see her drink daily. The only other observation I have made is she tends to nap a bit throughout the day and is ready for bed about an hour before everyone else. Any thoughts on this slow growth rate are appreciated.

Females do grow more slowly than males, and are smaller at adult full size than males. Since you say your husbandry is perfect, could be She may also just be a "runt" - especially if the genetics and health of the parents were not optimal. A vet visit may help rule out parasites or other reasons for poor growth.
