Anyone working with Prairies

trolligans Mar 11, 2008 03:49 PM

Are there any breeders currently working with Prairie Kingsnakes? They're a beautiful species but I never hear about them on the forums or see them in the ads.

Thanks guys!

I was very happy to be able to add these to my collection. To answer some of your questions.. They are pure Alterna that are the end result of many years of selective breeding and they are non-local..

I posted the female above, here is the male to go along with her. A little blurry but you get the idea!

After some grief/input from fellow alterna keepers.. These are now being called "Speckled Alterna"!

In my opinion nothing beats the clasic blairs phase alterna!

Prairie kings are one of he most underrated snakes out there.
I have had mine for years and really like the normals just as much as albinos. Like many kings, they often look their best as yearling/sub adults.
Mine are sort of maroon saddled on a golden ground color and the albinos are cherry red on a cream ground color.

I have a trio, 1.2, of albinos that are breeding right now. I've been cycling the male with each of the girls, with a few days off in between. Looks like one has taken, so we'll know in a little bit of time.
