bp eye concern

toxicogenic Mar 11, 2008 06:39 PM

hey everyone.. ive noticed that one of my het pied males has something slightly different with his eyes than my other two. the scales around his eyes are not flush with his eyeball. i'm not sure how to explain it. it's not that bad but it just caught my attention. also it looks like he has a "wrinkle" on his eye..i don't think it's a retained spectacle cause his last shed was perfect. just wanted to see what you guys think. i'm gonna try to attach a picture i took earlier of him. also, i live in miami and have been wanting to go herping in a field near my house..what would be the best time of the day to do so? thanks for any info.

If the snake is dehydrated the eye sometimes dents in. This looks more like a shed situation, did he just shed? I would just leave this one alone till the next shed myself and make sure he has good humidity right before he sheds out next time. Sometimes the shed leaves a whole grey eyecap which you can remove, but this one is marginal IMO.

Just looking at the pic I would suggest dehydration. Make sure he has fresh water daily and give him a soak or 2 a week. May be wrong though.

I definitely could be wrong, but if he were mine, I'd give him a bath. My kids sometimes aren't smart enough to get in the water... not the right temp, isn't brand new water, whatever the reason... so they get put in the tub. Keep us posted!

Hey there. A dented eye cap is caused by not enough humidity

toxicogenic Mar 14, 2008 11:16 AM

hey everyone..thanks for your replies. im going to give him a soak and see what happens. since i got him his first few sheds weren't good so i had a humidity box in his cage until his last shed was perfect..then i took it out. i'm just going to put it back in and leave it there. i haven't had this problem with the other two. i guess he just needs a little extra his skin is not wrinkly so i dont see him as being very dehydrated..but his eyes show that he is needing more humidity. again..i thank you all for your help and i'll keep you updated. take care..
