Well There's Always Next Year...........

fgs Mar 11, 2008 07:01 PM

I hate that frase, it seems to haunt me.

I came home last night to find the lavender sunglow going through her second shed in two months.

She had all the indications of being gravid, but a few weeks ago I began to have doubts. She didn't seem to be as full.

The positive thing is that she seems to be in great health.

Oh yes there's always next year....RRRRRRRRR

Atleast she'll be bigger next season. and atleast you still have a couple of other promising pairings. and atleast youll always have next year!

Jasin Mar 11, 2008 07:13 PM

past her POS?? I had a boa shed again in between her POS and birth last year for the first time. I bet Jeff Ronne could elaborate more on this too?? I don't think it has never happened to anyone else, keep your fingers crossed, YOU NEVER KNOW!! Good luck!!

Morgans Boas Mar 11, 2008 07:20 PM

I too have had a couple of intermediate sheds inbetween the POS and due date. If I were to guess, I'd say it happens about 5%-15% of the time.

Good luck, I bet she'll be fine!!

If you're right and she's not gravid, you still have her and yeah, there is next year!!!

If you're wrong and this is an oddball, then you may still have some babies coming from her.

Either way, she is gorgeous!!!!!

it might not hurt to put the male back in and see if you can get a late breeding.

Tibor Mar 11, 2008 08:20 PM

I would.
This whole boa breeding.. is like a trip to vegas.

fgs Mar 11, 2008 08:28 PM

As soon as she was thru with her shed I placed the male back in with her.

Thanks

I would not count her out just yet....she may just be shedding due to her bigger size....just watch her meal size to be on the safe side.

I have a female in shed right now and I do believe she is about to give birth, last night she was stretched along the back of her cage and seemed to be having contractions, She is in full blue and I think she's about to drop!

I had a female shed twice also-and I will go check and give you the exact dates between sheds-when I saw that second shed I thought I messed something up. I'm pretty sure I didn't even have the male in anywhere near the second shed. Then in x days (need to check how many) she had babies! So don't give up yet!

Craig K. Mar 12, 2008 12:17 PM

Don't give up, I have had 2 sheds after ovulation on many of my gravid females, keep an eye on her temp regulation. Craig

daneby Mar 11, 2008 11:29 PM

My 9ft Argentine girl shed 55 days after her pos a few years ago, and gave birth to 34 healthy babies 123 days after pos.

DONT give up!

Hang in there Brian - I haven't lost hope in her and neither should you! I also had a female last year give me a second shed on her way to a healthy litter - 51 days after her POS.

I had a female last year-pastel het Sharp albino do the following
shed 02/25/07 shed 04/04/07 deliver 30 perfect babies 06/12/07
So the way I do the count delivery date was approximately 109 days past the first shed (ovulation shed) and 71 days post the second shed.

Sometimes when the female is very big you can have that two shed deal. Jeff Ronnes females probably shed 3 or 4 times during gestation based on this theory! Hopefully that is the case and you will be getting babies approx 105-110 days past her first shed date. If she doesn't get increasingly larger you may have missed it.

Hope this helps. Tracy
