Blazin Aug 28, 2003 01:41 PM

Just got these the other day and was told thats what they are. Course someone else told me they are not the New Mexican variety. Any ideas?

New Mexico Milks differ from the Mexican Milks (annulata) in that bands tend to be sprakling clean and almost pure white. My annulata has a bit of black in its bands, and the bands are yellow. I hope this helps.

I dont wanna bum you out. I breed mexican milks aka annulatas, and I looked at what a new mexican milk was supposed to look like. Yours deffinatly resembles the mexican milk, and a beautiful one I must say. How much did you pay for it? However I have been wrong on my identifying skills in the past.
What ever it is, it is a nice snake.
Good luck: Jason

Looks like an anulata (mex milk), which usually have solid black heads. Celaenops (new mex milk) tend to have mottled snouts and white bands (although this varies with locality) instead of yellowish. These subspecies do integrade in central TX, though, confusing the issue.
