Color change in adult BRB

rocket Aug 28, 2003 01:47 PM

I just got my first BRB about two months ago. Since then he shed approx. two weeks after I got him and went from dark brown sides to light gray sides. Since then he has returned to the original dark brown, so I figured this was normal after a shed. However, he has begun to lighten up again. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this? Is it an indicator of health or temperment? He seems healthy enough to me and his enclosure is always around 75-85 temp wise and 85-90 humidity wise. I have hesitated to provide more ventilation since the temp is good but I am concerned about the effects of high humidity. Thanks.

Rocket,
. The change from dark to light on the sides is normal for BRBs. Sometimes they make the change in just an hour or so. Mine often get more light sided in the evening. I see it the most on young adult female BRBs. The color change on the sides also occurs in other subspecies of Rainbow Boas. (See the post above about Colombian Rainbow Boa coloration). That humidity is okay for an adult BRB. A little lower will not hurt though.
