tried to eat himself

goregrind Mar 12, 2008 05:18 AM

yesterday after my king finished his f/t rat pup he decided he was still hungry so he latched right on to his tail for a minute then let go(freaked me out because ive seen pics of kathy loves corn that ate itself). but even after he let go he chased his tail for a minute. i gave him another food item as fast as i could, it was a wenling mouse that was pretty much frozen still (is that bad?).

i think he has poor vision because if you feed him live he will bite himself sometimes

Kingsnakes tend to go into a frenzy around food and will often bite anything in the vicinity, including themselves. I wouldn't worry too much if your king bites himself as long has he releases quickly. Mine just has poor aim.

**** Not a good idea!,.....that can certainly damage the snake's stomach. For the extra few minutes it would have taken to thaw the prey out completely, a few more possible self-inflicted bites would have been much safer for the snake.

I've heard that you can use a chemical, such as rubbing alcohol, on a cotton swab to make a snake release what it's got ahold of by putting the scented swab to the snake's nostrils. I've never had to try this, but thought it might help.
