deppei deppei pics

geckoejon Mar 13, 2008 09:26 PM

here are pics of my newest additions. not very good pics i know, but i'm just learning with the digital and computer thing. had to have help resizing them. thanks jeremy!
they are both 06' deppei deppei. the male is hypo and the female is het for hypo. the guy i bought them from said he was the only one currently breeding hypo d.d. i don't know if that is true or not. i just thought they were beauts, so i got them. hope you enjoy.
i'll post some more pics of my other critters once i figure out how to resize on my computer. wish me luck later....

Nice looking animal, who did you get it from?

i got the pair from john of suncoast herps. i did a search and saw that were several people working with these at the moment, so i was misinformed, but i still think they are great. i like the female het just as much as the hypo. maybe it has something to do with the fact she acts like she is going to rip my face off every time i come near her. what can i say? i like them a little fiesty the hypo male is beautifull, but embarrisingly tame.
that is a great looking snake you posted. very impressive. is that a different locality than the durangos but still a deppei?

They are great looking snakes. There is a load of variation in this morph with a range of hypo-melanism. Some are a bit pale while others are almost whitewashed. They seem to have a great deal of variation in the pattern as well. I have hatched some that are almost patternless others that are speckled.

The one I posted is either the father or an older brother to yours. The morp showed up in our collection in 2000 as a result of breeding a normal (unknown het) to her wild caught unknown het father. I rotated two males in that year...the unknown het father and a normal brother so I did not know which male was the carrier, and prior to them hatching we had no idea that the gene was present. I bred her with her normal brother the next year and the trait did not show up...50/50 chance and I lost the coin toss. It is a fairly simple recesive trait tied to a gene that can produce pattern anomolies as well. We did get it isolated as a result of that normal male breeding and have been working with them ever since. I tend not to work with many morphs but they are locality pure and when the snake gods grace you with a gift like that what else can you do but embrace it!

Suncoast herps is a top notch guy to work with. I am proud to have them retail my annual offspring knowing that they have fair prices and will treat people the way I would...honestly!

please keep posting pics of them so we can watch how they look as they age.
