Breeding ball in south jersey

chucktornetta Mar 14, 2008 09:26 PM

Hi Guys, I thaught I would share with you that I got a chance to see first hand some early risers out breeding. It was on a small local trail in southern new jersey were I live .
I didnt think I would see any reptiles up but to my suprise there were quite a few northern red belly turtles basking on exposed logs in the pond . And this group of garter snakes , they were all balled up and tweakin lol. (jerking ) around on top of each other.
This spot my friend Zach showed me is also known for having large amounts of breeding garters.
Hopefully this season I will get to see that big Christmas wreath sized breeding ball I have heard can come from this area.
Of course the spot is top secret, and I left them all in nature.
I did take a pic and im trying to post it now.
I have it saved in my documents . Any help and I would post it.
chuck tornetta.

Surprises me to see mating activity so soon. I'm going to have to get out herping!
