What is the difference between HYPO and flame brooksi besides the name?Other hybrid questions..

Jeff Schofield Aug 28, 2003 04:08 PM

Not following the brooksi trend has left me behind in my studies. I understand some HYPOs are more red than others but...is it the same morph? And of the brooksi morphs which have naturally occured and which have been introduced through cal king hybrids? I have IDed HYPO,lavender albino, white sided, red albino and axanthic morphs. Are there incompatible/multiple strains in any of these? No offense if this has been covered before if someone can link me.Thanks,Jeff

Brandon has a very nice "white" brooksi line(normal, not axanthic). There are also the ghost (hypo x axanthic) and snow (albino x axanthic) morphs. Some people have also produced varying amounts of striping in hypos.I am sure that soon all these traits will be crossed to produce many different color and pattern traits. The flame morph appears to derive from selective breeding done by Bob Fengya to produce high red brooks.Brandon and/or Keith can tell you the criteria used to describe "flames". It is my understanding that not all flames have hypo lineage. Red is tricky since there isn't enough information to show a particular form of inheritance. The same is true according to pituophis breeders of the red bullsnake morph. Some but not all of the lavender albino brooks lines have been called "hybrids". I have not really researched that.
This should get you started, the other guys can fill in what I missed!
