My candoia prolapsed last week, her rectum was re-inserted on Tuesday.
The vet prescripted oral anti-biotics to be administered 0.4 mL daily for ten days.
He has advised me not to feed her for at least a month.
I have a few questions about that:
She was not given stitches. For how long should I keep her butt taped up? I am reluctant to do that for too long because it does not seem gentle on her scales, and if she needs to pass feces, it won't go over very well. He butt tape fell off last night and the prolapse did not recur.
When should I feed her? I last fed her three weeks ago, so she is due for another meal. I thought perhaps I could feed her a very small meal (ie pink rat) with some water injected into the adbomen, as I'm afraid that her prolapse was a result of dehydration (she does have access to water all the time, but it wasn't parasites, overfeeding, overheating, or stress). This would also make it easier to administer the a/bs for one day. Is the straining going to cause a recurrance of the prolapse?
Anything else would be helpful. She sure is getting irritated with all this fussing, though!
