Shed question

syndicate559 Mar 15, 2008 09:43 PM

I have 165 gram male that I got a little over a month ago. He hasn't gone blue at all since I've had him, but I've been expecting him to shed for a couple of weeks now. I can feel the outer layer of skin getting ready to come off and his belly has been pink for a while. Is it normal for the process to be so long? Does all this stuff happen prior to him going blue? Thanks for your help.

It might not be a bad idea to spray him down with a huge amount of tap water. He may have already gone blue and is too dry to shed.
Can you post a photo taken of him today. It might help us to establish his condition.

Best of luck

Sure, here's a pic. The skin isn't visibly dead and hanging on, it just feels like it's starting to get 'loose' and there's the occasional flaking scale. That's the best way I can think to describe it. He doesn't seem unhealthy in any way and I'm keeping the humidity up.

Sorry still no photo.

Another effective way to help your snake to shed its skin is to drench a pillow case in tap water, ring it out and place the snake inside the tied pillow case for about a half an hour. As the snake begins to crawl around inside the bag there is a slight abrasive action between the snakes skin and the bag.

I hope these techniques will help you now and in the future.

I can always be reached through my web site or you can call my cell at (408)981-6694.

Good luck

Your snakes looks great.

Try the spray method. If he or she is ready to shed that technique will probably work.

Good luck.
