GABOONS!

bigguykev36 Aug 28, 2003 04:49 PM

So, I'm interested, I live in California, and I want information on breeders, housing, care, and all the other good info. I have been handling herps for almost 15 years now and have handled a nice share of western diamond backs (only venemous I've dealt with). I have ALWAYS loved gaboon vipers and would like to own one. should I get one? where should I get it from? juvenile or adult? where do I read more about them? Please help me in making the right choice.

Well dude, I would not recomend a gabby as a first hot, but you will do what you want to do anyway...... LOL..... I would start out with a CBB neonate..... Your skills will grow with the snake...... Adults are a handful at best and if you are not experianced they will get the better of you...... Way stronger than any western diamond back...... I breed gaboons, puffs and rhinos but have no neonates for sale at this time...... Breeding season is coming up in two months..... Take a look in the venomous photo gallery...... I have a few pics up in there..... There is a shot of my 5ft 4in female eating and one of me tailing her..... Check them out.....

First off if you live in Calif. you cannot have a Gaboon. I carries a hefty fine if you get caught, and chances are if you live in Calif unless you work for a zoo you do not have the experience to handle a snake like that. sorry to burst your bubble man but I dont suggest you try to get one in California.

wonderful! thanks! you've all been very helpful. I appreciate your help. It was just an idea I've been tossing around for a long time. they've always been my favorite venemous snake, and just thought they'd be nice to own. thanks for your help and I will talk to you all soon whenever I have another question for y'all.

i started with a cbb gabby as my first hot four years ago and let me tell you it was a wonderful experience. let me give you a handling tip though, dont ever touch your gaboon unless you need to medicate, there is no reason to tail a gaboon, a neonate gabby can be handled with an appropriate sized hook and as they get larger you will need to double hook them. many keeprs with years of experience have never been bit because they dont put there hands on the animals unless absolutely necessary.
good luck if you do go through with getting one

my .02 cents
