I know its probably been covered but..

any of you have any tips or tricks to get a bp to be a little more active during the day? i know its not natural but but maybe some way to get them out a little more often to show off would be nice...

i have already blacked out the sides and the back of the display tank, lowered the ambient lighting, moved him to the corner of the room to avoid any traffic and put a towel between his tank and the stand to soften the footsteps of ppl (hardwood floors) -- this has helped a little, he will now come out and explore during the day if nobody is moving around and the tv and radio are off, im just wondering if anyone has anymore tips or tricks for me

thanks

You need to upload the pic to an actual kingsnake.com photo account for the boxes at the bottom to work. Otherwise, the IMG link in photobucket is what the rest of us use.

Using red/"moonlight" lights may help your ball python be more active during the day, but it is pretty unusual for them to be active at that time.

If you want a day-active snake, get a cornsnake or a kingsnake. Ball pythons aren't really a day-time display animal. However, many colubrids can be housed in a setup that allows for a wide range of daytime activities. My kingsnake is often out and basking during the day, and when she gets hungry I see her out constantly searching for food.
