do not probe?

spentchange Mar 17, 2008 12:48 AM

is there a species of snake that should not be probed. i overheard someone saying that if you probe a certain species of python (maybe) that it would render the animal sterile and useless as a breeder. just wondering

I have not heard, and don't understand the reasoning why a snake would be sterilized by probing. I can guess though, where this came from. Small size, especially squirmy snakes, strong coilers, or otherwise difficult to handle snakes will make it hard to get a good, steady, but gentle probing. Thus the risks of probing would be increased... yet, damage to a hemipene rarely leaves the animal sterile since they have two.

If I missed something, someone please fill me (us) in
