Problem feeder adults out of brumation

justinmatthew Mar 17, 2008 10:13 AM

I've got three adults that after brumation don't show any interest in taking food. They were picky eaters before, eating occasionally but I was hoping that after brumation they would come out ravenous. Well they haven't so I'm considering getting something to sent with. Here in Indiana its still cool so I don't think I can find any toads but I might be able to pick up a lizard like an anole for cheap at the pet store. Would an anole be suitable for Westerns? Thanks!

Some people have had success with anole scent. You might also want to try scenting with the spring water from a can of tuna. My male was a picky eater, scented once with the tuna water, and now he eats them two at a time!

Good Luck!

Try the tuna water and a smaller prey item. Pinks are what seem to stimulate my picky eaters, or brains......go figure!

thanks for the advice guys. would you suggest pinks for adults?

That is what works for my stubborn adults. If they really go for the pinks, I will then lay a pink on top of the head of an appropriate sized food item, and often they will grab both when they bite the pink.
