That black back is amazing... I wouldnt mind having one of those.
WOW WOW WOW!!! You're killing me man... NICE stuff!
Matt
p.s. - Any new pics of those 'black back' BHP's?
Haha.
I'll snap some today. I've needed to get some updated photos for awhile now.
More to come.
How are your eggs doing?

>>How are your eggs doing?
Still have 7 of 12, but me thinks one is going down...
I knew only 7 were viable at deposition even though the other 5 were also 'good' looking (when candled not so good). Almost one month down... I still think it will be a miracle if anything hatches!
Matt
Wow, those are just incredible, the eggs looked huge as well. What is the average length of a hatchling, and overall size of sire and dam? I keep/breed Womas as well and have a strong interest in the "Western" phase BHP if they are anything like their little cousins.

Well, Tom K and I should have some good example of "really nice" BHP's this year.
Get in touch if you're itching that bad!!!!LOL.
My average baby length is about 14-16 inches.
My adults are all in the 5 -7 1/2 range.
They're great snakes.
Nothing else even comes close to the alertness and confidence a BH carries.
Cheers.

Will do Derek, is it accurate to say that the Western form is smaller than the Eastern form? I like the B/W contrast in the Westerns as well vs. the Eastern form.

It would be accurate to say that but, it's a moot point here in the U.S.
Just like a lot of other Aussie snakes (and locale type animals)....they have been poorly documented and having "proof" of west/east animals outside of Aussie is questionable.
That being said... I have "west type" animals that are 5-7 feet that are breeders... and, I have "east type" animals that are breeders and 5-7 feet.
Actually, the smallest breeder I have is an eastern at about 5 1/2 feet and not quite as big as a soda can around.
I just go by what looks good.
You can find a lot of different "looks" to the BHP's here in the states.
I like em' ALL!!!!
D.
Derek,
I like how you describe them by "type". My pair is an eastern "type". Whether or not they are easterns is pure mystery, but they look like that kind.
5.5 feet and not quite as big as a soda can sounds like a fire plug when speaking of BHP's. Anyway, congrats on the continued success.
