Breeding Collards............

lcfish10 Mar 17, 2008 01:43 PM

hi all........Jim K. here........
how's everyone doing anyway?
I was wondering if there are any substances out there to help stimulate the breeding of collared lizards. Maybe any vitamins or such. Was just curious. The one thing I was wondering was do most males attempt to breed with the females when she starts to show her colors or does it just happen? My clan has been getting the full spectrum of uvb and heat now for about 2 to 3 weeks and about 12 to 14 hours a day. They all are extremely active and feeding time is like a full blown frenzy at times.
4 of my female easterns are showing a pretty green front legs and yellowish shades all over the frontal areas. None of them are showing the oranges or reds like they did last year when I received them. Will they ALWAYS show those oranges and reds when it becomes breeding time?
I guess I am looking for something that leads me to think they have bred or are getting ready to breed. I want to swap my females with my 2 nice big yellowheads and my handsome blue aquaflames and hopefully get something to happen.
any ideas would be terrific and as you know me, I am always open for suggestions.
Thanks people and lets keep this forum going........what a great site and knowledge hangin' around here........
Take care all..........

Hello,
I don't know of any product to help stimulate breedng but I wish there was one. Typically, about a month after coming out of brumation, the males will start getting fired up, vibrating heads, pushups, and doing circles or figure 8's on the basking rocks and attempting to mate with the females. This can happen with or with out the females showing colors. The females can develope the colors with or with out a male present. I have seen them mate with or with out gravid colors.
