Adult or baby....?

AbsoluteApril Mar 17, 2008 02:04 PM

Hello,
It's so hard sometimes to make up my mind. I can either get a really pretty proven adult from a somewhat unknown or spend a few hundred less and get a nice baby from a good name and grow it up. Save the bucks or go for the gusto? Argh! I keep going back and forth! Decisions, decisions. What would you do? Either way I'll have to get a new cage, so size isn't an issue. I'm not in a rush to breed her *but* next year would be nice to have new babies.
Happy St Patrick's all!

I just got a nice pair last week.(Sharp hets)...

But this is just a hobby for me & not a business, I'm probably
in the extreme minority...

The idea of handling and having to extract a pissed off adult
boa from it's spawn isn't something that I find appealing.

Besides, I like to watch them grow up...

I think it is best to go with the baby. I think animals that grow up in the same environment tend to do much better. Some adults transition well while others never seem to really adjust to a new place with a totally different micro environment.

You never know what you're bringing in with an adult.
Could take more than a year for an adult to acclimate enough to breed.
The juveniles are so much more fun. Great stuff to watch them change as they grow.

i can totally agree. i have had one female for over 2 years that was more than ready 2 years ago, and she has not bred until this year.
i think it can take adults quite a bit to acclimate, but............... on the other hand, i got an adult pair of anery's in december, and they have bred since they came in basically.
she's so huge i never know if she has ovulated or not, and the male still courts her nearly every day.
so who knows! i would go with babies myself and grow them up even though it does suck to wait so long.

a baby! The adult was nice but she had already been bred at an early age which brought out those flashing red warning lights in my head ("Power fed!". So I'm getting an '07 baby. I can't wait to see my new little girl! I got a bonus at work and decided to treat myself.
And I agree, it is always fun to grow them up and see how they change. Thanks for the opinions, I'll make sure to post pics when my new little hog isle is here.
