Timor is an island in the eastern part of the Indonesian Island chain. It is south of celebes North of Australia and Just west of New Guinea. I believe it has a rather pronounced dry season from about april thru November but I can't remember for sure. It was also recently the site of a civil war with Indonesia and I believe it is now divided into east and west Timor.

Ahh, man! I hate when you give incomplete info. You're not gonna tell us what kind of plants grow there?

I Never paid all that much to Timor my interests generally lie on the western side of Wallace's line. But if I had to take an educated guess. I'l bet the forests tend to dominated by eucalpyt trees, Ficus trees are a given being south of the equator and so close to Australia I wouldn't be surprised at some stuff in the protea family being present there.Szygiums come to mind . Further than that I wouldn't guess too much (I mean I could but it would make for a really long post and I'm not sure how accurate I would be.) Knowing full well That I am far from the biggest class clown on this forum I am sure some one will let both of us know what really is there plant wise lol. later HH.

I think you deserve a little bit of mercy by now. Just in case you haven't figured it out it, the reason for the replies, or lack thereof, is due to the way the question was asked.

We're not a bunch of English majors but we do try to encourage somewhat proper sentence structure. Instant Messaging-style writing doesn't quite cut it here, as you can see.

There's quite a bit of information on Timor monitors available here in the forums and the forum archives, as well as all across the Internet. A few quick & easy searches will give you plenty of reading material.

The "Search Forums" link is directly under the title of the that you're reading now. www.google.com is a good Internet search engine.

Use various words in various order to when performing Internet searches. For information on Timor monitors, some good search queries are:
Timor monitor
varanus timorensis
...and you can add the word "care" to the end of both of those for additional information.

Best wishes!
HH

Sorry for the incomplete sentence but I have been having trouble with my key board, I was just wondering the tank set ups people use, substrate, temps, humidity, size, orientation, and things of that nature I am planning on getting at least one timor, maybe two.

captive husbandry and setup for Timors wouldn't be any different than a standard Ackie approach. check out the caresheets and FAQ on our site, and get a copy of the Bennett Savannah book.

i don't recommend the Timors as a captive monitor, there are better choices, but that is a personal preference...

I would respectively disagree!
Timors are very shy and appreciate lots of cover and hieght in an enclosure.
You wouldn't keep your Prasinus in the standard Ackies setup, why Timors?

by same basic care i am talking about temp gradients, soils, diet, stuff like that.

they aren't bad monitors, i just think the Ackies are a better choice for a captive experience. keeping the overly shy Timors is like keeping an empty cage, that isn't a lot of fun.

the real problem is that folks find cheap Timors for sale, and buy them on impulse, thinking the various small monitor species are interchangeable. that is not a wise way to get into monitors.

you would be better off, as a new keeper, or new small monitor keeper, to save up your dough and get some captive bred Ackies. similar small size, absolutely u.s. captive bred, great personality, fun to watch, will actually let you watch them, etc.

we have kept Ackies since the late mid 90's, i am STILL not tired or bored with them, they are STILL my number one overall choice : )

oh, and i read your post above about fat girls and mopeds. you're a weirdo!

"captive husbandry and SETUP for Timors wouldn't be any different than a standard Ackie approach."

Robyn
Again, if folks would put them in proper SETUPS they are indeed a great small species to work with!!

Basic husbandry is a great starting point for ALL species, keeping all Monitors in "standard Ackie" setups is not a good approach at all!
Which brings me back to my point you wouldn't keep Tree Monitors in standard Ackies setups...would you?

Now that would be WIERD!!
