What colour???

brick1 Mar 17, 2008 08:03 PM

Ok new snakes arrived today, from a czech republic source via the Hamm show in germany. I got 2.2 package. 3 are normal looking, one is what you see here in the picture. Opinions?? There is not an ounce or red on her, but a lot of brown, and white/cream crescents I must say i was a bit sceptical about them, but are pretty darn happy now that they here.Born Nov 07. Sorry for the position of snakes in the picture, but they had been traveling for about 4 days, and just wanted to get them into the cages asap.

Fiqured my caging system out for them, and will post pics soon, but seems to be working very well.

be keen to hear comments about her

cheers dave

ps hope the pic works, firsttime trying to upload

Hmmmm..... looks like it could be Anery to me. I would like to hear what the experts think, though. If it is... what a lucky score for you!!

Congrats on your new babies, by the way.

well i bought them as an anery female, and 1.2 66% poss het anerys. i was quite dubious as all pics i have seen as youngsters on other anerys, they are much more grey and white. And the pics i had seen before purchase, made it hard to tell. In reality, there is definetly a big colour difference to the poss hets, and no red on the female.

I would love to hear the opinions of anybody that has anerys, on what they think. Will be interesting to see how she develops anyway.

The parents were supposedly 100% het anerys, that were imported from the states, and then this breeder bought them from one of the european shows. if this is correct, im trying to work out which line there are from, or is there only one known line, brian sharps??

Really keen to hear thoughts

Dave

Dave,

Yes that does have an anery look to it but of course hard to tell from the pic for sure. I have two, an 06 female and an 07 Male along with a couple of hets. That silver and Taupe coloring does tend to brown as they age.

Two lines that I'm aware of, Sharp and Seib.

Tom Chiang has an line of anery's also that he bred from WCs. Completely unrelated to Brian Sharps. I'm getting one today. They seem a bit more brown than Brian's, but still pretty obviously an Anery. Below are two pictures, the first is my Anery and second is my poss Het Anery

Sorry, my anery didn't show up... let's try again

brick1 Mar 18, 2008 12:38 PM

yeah that pretty much what mine looks like. I will try and get a heap more pics up in next few days. If possible could you PM me his contact details. Want to try and work out where mine have originated from, and so that when i get another one, can try and get another line.

Also does anyone have any european contacts for brb breeders over here? I have heard there are some, but can not seem to find any contact info anywhere.

Dave

forget about the PM, realised already have his contact!!! Still keen on any european ones though.

That snake looks like my possible anerythristic male. I am skeptical about all the anerythristic bloodlines because many of them do not look a lot different from normal less colorful wild stock. I think many of the snakes people are calling anerythristic are just plain dark normal snakes. I sold a dozen babies from several different litters to some young guys who were here from the Czech Republic about 12 years ago.

parents were 4yr old het anerys, purchased thru an american is all i know. But she does seem to look very similiar to the anery pic posted by aanata1 on this thread. The non anery babies in the clutch were all bright reds, if it were a darker coloured individual as opposed to an anery, wouldnt the whole clutch be more like that?

Hi Dave,

Could be a lot more complicated than that, genetically speaking.
Could be like hair color in humans. While the genetics might
be poorly understood, the darker colored/brown phenotype might not be all that uncommon. And there also may be multiple causes,
who knows?

I can't pretend to have even .01% of Jeff's knowledge and experience, but from what I've seen, I agree with him.

Whatever you have, they are beautiful BRB's!

Thanks,
Ed

Even if yours are "anery" like mine are "anery" there haven't been breeding trials between the lines to see if they are compatible. That is why I bought a male from Tom Chiang and have a female on hold with Brian Sharp. Even though at birth they look similar, lacking red, there are many genes that could code for this color anomaly. Guess we'll have to wait and see when more breeding trials are done.

Since you're using photobucket, just click on the image code and that will automatically copy it into your memory, then paste (CTRL-V) into your note, can do that as many times as you want.

How old are your two?

born november 07, so about 4.5months i reckon. Yeah i can see the more white on yours, but there is definetely something very different when i put mine together, looks very much like the ones aanata1 posted.

ended up with 0.1 anery and 2.1 66% poss hets. Would have liked to have got a male, and 3 poss het females, and try and fiqure it out that way, but seeing i have a het hypo pair coming, the anery girls first boyfriend might be a the het hypo male. And we will go from there

aanata1 Mar 19, 2008 03:26 PM

I tried to get him out for a good crescent picture, but failed (he's inside his waterfall). He just arrived yesterday and I finally got a good look in person and he has the white crescents like the Brian Sharp Aneries. I think our snakes do look very similar. I should also tell you that the male I selected had another anery brother that was a bit more brown than he was even though he was obviously different than the rest of the litter. I'd be willing to bet that your female is an "anery" as best as our limited knowledge of the anery gene can estimate.

Also do you have any pics that show their faces? Mine all have distinctly round heads. If yours are related to mine it might be an indicator. I'll try to get mine out for some pics in the next couple of days if I can.

Good Luck and if I didn't say it already they are both very beautiful!

brick1 Mar 19, 2008 04:53 PM

will feed tomorrow think, so will get some head shots, but from what i can fiqure now, they most likely same line as you. Will be interesting to see what happens with your cross to the other line.

Have never been bit by one of my snakes, but today i had one of the babies out, i turned my head, and when looked back he was striking, missed my nose by about a cm, gave me a bit of a shock and a smile, fiesty little buggers they are.

They usually mellow out as they get older. BRBs are known for being nippy when they're young. Just handle them periodically.

paulbuck Mar 18, 2008 07:29 PM

Dave,
Nice looking BRB's. The 'anery' does look like a brownish BRB but I'm just not up on the morph thing. After they get settled in flood us with more pictures.
