Feeding schedule

cyrus7 Mar 17, 2008 09:26 PM

I've been feeding my girl once a week on medium f/t mice, as I have been lurking on this forum I have noticed that some people say "feeding every four days" and others "every 9 days" How do you go about determining when to feed?

I followed the advice of some of the more replicable breeders. I offer food every 7 days, always on Sunday afternoon. I think it is important to stay consistant with the day you choose to feed. My snakes don't know every day of the week, but they know when Sunday gets here! They start "hunting" on Sunday morning. I have always read that adults only need food every 14 days but I still offer on Sundays. Don't get me wrong, ALL my snakes do not eat everytime they are offered but 75% or so do.

Age has some to do with how often they'll eat. Babies will often eat every four days. They're busy growing so they burn it off fairly quickly. As they age the frequency you feed should lengthen. 7-10 days is the acceptable norm. I sometimes just let mine tell me when they're hungry. I'll wait till they get restless and start cruisin' and hunting then I'll feed. Just my thoughts on this.
