heating a rack

i have seen a few pics of racks made of allthread and mellamine.I know some peopple use flex but my Q is about a round grey cord that is routered into the wood.What is this and does it woork well?

it's heat cable, works well, I have a buddy of mine that uses it in his racks. you will need to run some type of thermostat with it, being enclosed in a rack, things tend to get a little warmer.
