Longicauda afficianados...

lateralis Mar 18, 2008 10:27 AM

I posted not long ago about my newly matured pair of Harding longis and their courting. The female has refused food (A FIRST)and I was wondering whats next. She seems to have swelled up a great deal, and has started coiling in a tight bun over the hot spot in her cage. Im guessing she is gravid, but as I have not reproduced boas before I was wondering how things will progress. My experience is with colubrids, Womas, et al. these guys are new for me so any tips on the progression and what to expect will be appreciated. Specifically needed answers are preferred temps during gestation, time frame, and what to look for when the time draws near (also, when will that be if she was bred between December - March) Thanks in advance!!

i keep my hot spots about 85-87 and the low side of the cage about 75-77. my BcL's are usually about 114 days pos but I usually use 105 day average for bci's to figure due dates. if i see that my girls are always on the hot spot and in heat conservation position i will up the temps by a degree or two and if i see that they are always on the cool side then i lower it a little and try to get a good balance where my girls are spending about equal amounts of time on both sides of the cage.

Micah thanks a bunch mate! I really want to give her the best possible care during this period and not having reproduced boas before has its shortcomings...Sounds like Im on the right track, I just wanted to make sure I was giving her the right conditions so thanks again for responding to my questions.
