What makes me mad

jscrick Mar 19, 2008 12:37 AM

The other day I was making my rounds to the local herp shops here in town. Was in one store, when all of a sudden I see this rather large (5ft.) adult boa. It's the kind of snake you see in the veterinary literature, with the deformed snarl and bubbles forming, struggling to breath. Mouth Rot, RI, mites, dehydrated, starved, high probability of IBD.
This snake was right out in the open. Front of the store. I'm absolutely positive they wouldn't have hesitated to sell that snake to anyone dumb enough not to know better. And they'd have piled on hundreds of dollars of worthless junk to take care of the poor thing. None of which would do it any good.
That's what makes me mad. That is what I need help dealing with.

You could always deal with it like I have been known to do. (Yeah, I'm an unpopular fellow in the pet shops around here, and I live with myself just fine)

Anyway, I try to explain things first. If they are unreceptive to my advice, I just hammer it to them. I take pictures, whether they like it or not, I threaten to get animal control involved if they don't deal with it, and get it to a vet immediately. Like right now, TODAY! I know most of the vets around here, so it's not hard to follow up either. At least not for me.

It's all about the animals. I can really care less if they feel like I stepped on their toes. People SUCK most times when it comes to animal care. They need us to speak up for them.
