Expanded PCV Spec. Questions

pinky Mar 19, 2008 01:21 PM

I have seen the Sintra expanded PVC, say 1/2" and it seems quite rigid. I have some of the Excel brand 10mm and it really seems flimsy. Looking at the web page for Excel, I see three different types. One is called rigid and seems to have a higher number for the rigidity. Do you think it is possible that I have the softer type.

Yes it is possible.

For smaller projects/cages/hideboxes/lids, the softer type works just fine.

I had a 4ft x 2ft cage made from a less rigid expanded PVC, and it held up wonderfully.

Thanks Markg. Once it is glued up I suppose it will look better.

It is possible and you may even be able to figure it out if you can weigh the sheet. Most of the plastic companies have densities listed on their sites and some of the weight differences are quite significant and if I remember correctly correlate with rigidity.

Currently keeping a small collection of various Gonyosoma. Both G. janseni and G. oxycephala.
